LDR – A Week of Envelopes

So recently I started dating a boy who lives in England (I live in Canada), and I wanted to do something special for him. I am like the most hopeless of all hopeless romantics out there and one of my favourite things about being in a relationship is surprising my partner with cute little things. This is what I came up with, and I had no idea at the time that it would turn into my most pinned pin on pinterest (say that ten times fast :p).

Because mail can take a while to get from here to England I thought it would be nice to send a package that contained 7 envelopes so that he could open one each day for a week. It would give us both something to look forward to and talk about each day: for him he would find either a cute or sexy surprise with a letter, and I (with great anticipation) would get to see which envelope he opened. He absolutely loved it πŸ™‚

Now you wanna know what I put inside don’t you?

Envelope 1: (Open for something sweet)

– a shell from the beach in Florida (where we will meet for the first time)

Envelope 2: (Open for something sweet)

-an iTunes giftcard with a list of romantic songs (since I was on vacation when I put this together I wasn’t able to make a mix cd)

Envelope 3: (open for something sexy)

-Some sexy photos on a USB

Envelope 4: (open for something sweet)

-Gummy bears (his favourite!)

Envelope 5: (open for something sweet)

-My boyfriend is very close with his grandparents so I got him a Starbucks giftcard so he can take them out for tea or coffee.

Envelope 6: (open for something sexy)

-panties. what?

Envelope 7: (open for something sweet)

-Hot chocolate packets since it’s usually damp and cold in England and I can’t be there to warm him up πŸ™‚

*Of course there are endless possibilities so make this idea your own and send your boyfriend or girlfriend a weeks worth of surprises they would like! Just make sure with things like giftcards that they a. have that store/service near them and b. that the card can be used in another country/state ect,. Also be careful with things like dvd’s that are coded by region, cd’s on the other hand are safe πŸ™‚

  1. Love this idea…your ideas are really thoughtful too. My sister made it work from a similar distance, and now, 7 years later I’m an uncle, heh. So best of luck

  2. This is totally awesome! I did something similar for my long distance girlfriend. I wrote her a set of letters, and each one was in a different envelop. For example, one of them was “open when you are feeling sad” and it had a letter with some funny jokes in it. Others were “open when you can’t sleep,” “open when you are feeling lonely,” etc. My girlfriend did the same thing back for me, but hers totally kicked ass. She included giftcards, links to playlists, and a link to a video she made for me. (:

    1. That’s awesome πŸ™‚ I saw the “Open When” envelope idea on pinterest not too long after I came up with this idea and ended up doing that one as well lol. Most of my open when ones were fairly simple but for one of them I sent my boy on a scavenger hunt (I hid little clues in gifts/letters/postcards I sent him for a while) and then in the envelope there were clues for him and a locked box, and at the end of it he found the key I had hidden in a cd sleeve I made for him. Along the way he got little surprises too, it took him to some sexy pics, to an article i wrote about him on this blog, ect,. It took HOURS and weeks to plan haha but it was totally worth it, he loved it πŸ™‚

That’s awesome that you did that for your girl and she sent you some back. I think these kinds of things are so important in a relationship and it’s always nice when it’s appreciated and goes both ways. People often fantasize about romantic movies and think “why cant love actually be like that?” but it totally can be like that, you just have to make it like that. I for one feel like I get to live a fairytale everyday and my man says the same thing. It’s a wonderful feeling πŸ™‚

  3. I had a guy send those to me when I was on a mission trip to Belize without any sort of contact. He did one, “open when you need to cuddle” and sent me a shirt that smelled like him. In addition to one being “open when you need to show your friends” which was full of funny baby pictures of him!

    1. Those are really sweet ideas. Love looking at all the old photos! My boyfriend sent me one of his sweaters in the mail; I’d always wear it around the house, nothing more comforting than being able to wear or sleep with your boy’s shirt or sweater :). I think inexpensive thoughtful surprises like that are the best. Sounds like you have a keeper!

  4. Hey, you just posted on my blog, allthewayfromthebay.com and I’m new to blogging, so I’m getting emails that you’ve made comments but I can’t see where they are posted, can you show/tell me where to look?

    1. lol they will appear at the bottom of your post. Or if you click the orange notification at the top right of your screen beside your headshot it will bring up a menu with likes/comments and you can find them there πŸ™‚ Hope that makes sense!

      1. oh, ok, I think you might have filled out the contact form instead of the comment section. they are different things right?

      2. I haven’t heard of a contact form on wordpress before… I believe they only have a comment section which is where I commented, but you have to click “approve” or else it won’t show up on your post. From the drop down menu click on the comment, it opens a window to the left u then click “reply & approve” or just “approve” I think

      3. Well now I know what the contact form does lol, would you mind posting what you put in the contact form as comments please πŸ™‚

  5. That is lovely with all those efforts to write those stuff πŸ™‚

  8. I did this before I went away to France for my boyfriends 21st birthday! He absolutely loved them! Great idea.

    1. Thank you! Always nice to meet another hopeless romantic πŸ™‚

Happily we have now closed the distance! I moved to england 3 months ago although my man is away with work for 7 weeks so it seems the distance isn’t entirely closed :p
